Introduction

Hepatolenticular degeneration, also known as Wilson’s disease, is an autosomal recessive disorder of copper metabolism. Because the hepatic lesions of Wilson’s disease lack sufficient histological specificity, copper staining of liver tissue is important for its differential diagnosis and confirmation. Rhodanine is a bidentate chelating agent with a strong affinity for copper and can be used to localize and detect copper deposits.
