Oil Red O Staining Solution
Introduction
Oil Red O staining (ORO staining) is one of the most commonly used and well-established methods for lipid staining in pathology and cell biology research. It is a fat-soluble dye staining method based on the principle of “like dissolves like.” Oil Red O is an azo dye containing numerous hydrophobic, or lipophilic, groups. When the Oil Red O staining solution comes into contact with lipid droplets, which mainly consist of triglycerides, the dye rapidly dissolves in and accumulates within the lipid droplets, staining the originally colorless lipids bright orange-red or vivid red.
