Introduction

Monodon Baculovirus (MBV), also known as Penaeus monodon-type baculovirus or grass shrimp baculovirus, mainly infects the hepatopancreas and anterior midgut epithelial cells of Penaeus monodon. After infection, the virus can produce numerous eosinophilic round or oval viral inclusion bodies in the nuclei of infected cells, affecting shrimp digestion, nutrient absorption, and normal growth. Shrimp that survive infection may become viral carriers and continuously spread the pathogen through eggs, feces, and other routes, increasing the risk of cross-infection and disease transmission within cultured populations.

The kit is suitable for screening shrimp larvae and juveniles before stocking, health testing of broodstock and seed shrimp, monitoring during the aquaculture process, pathogen confirmation in suspected cases, and quality assessment before seed shrimp transportation or trade. Early detection of MBV can help farmers promptly identify virus-carrying individuals, reduce the risk of viral transmission in aquaculture environments, and minimize economic losses caused by poor growth, reduced survival rates, and contamination of farming batches.
